“Every Sunday at church and every afternoon in God’s Word, she learns that her true value comes from a heart that trusts in the Lord.”

Nine-year-old Joy* is a bright fourth-grader with an infectious smile and a relentless work ethic. Growing up in an ethnic minority family in Northern Thailand, she faced learning obstacles from an early age. Her mother, a hardworking migrant worker, can only read limited Thai, meaning Joy had to navigate her schoolwork entirely on her own—using a borrowed mobile phone to research lessons and teach herself.
Rather than giving up, Joy thrived. Driven by responsibility and an eager mind, she earned top marks in her class, demonstrating a special love for learning English.
Even at nine years old, Joy’s life reflects the love of Christ. She routinely uses her own knowledge to tutor her best friend—a migrant classmate three years older who struggles with the language barrier. At home, Joy cheerfully sweeps floors, mops, and washes dishes to lighten her mother’s heavy workload.
Equipping a Dream Through Education Matters
Recognizing Joy’s potential and her family’s severe financial constraints, the ทุนการศึกษา (Education Matters) program provided her with a comprehensive educational scholarship.
The scholarship lifted a heavy weight off her mother’s shoulders, providing Joy with the books, learning materials, and financial security needed to stay in school and excel without fear of falling behind.
Faith in Action: The TawSaeng & illumin8 Projects
While academic support through ทุนการศึกษา (Education Matters) opened doors for Joy’s intellect, other FCF ministry projects provided rich soil for her heart and soul to grow.
Every day after school, Joy attends the TawSaeng Project—an encouraging community space where staff help students with academic tutoring and social development in a safe, Christ-centered environment.
On school holidays, Joy joins her mother at the illumin8 Project, where her mother works hard as a temporary team member. There, Joy looks forward to sitting down regularly with a Christian mentor to read through the Bible line by line, grounding her young heart in God’s Word.
Faith is the cornerstone of Joy’s household:
- Dedicated Motherhood: Joy’s mother works tirelessly at the illumin8 Project and performs traditional Thai massage on weekends to support her daughter.
- Weekly Worship: Every Sunday, without fail, her mother takes Joy to their local church to worship, study Scripture, and grow in their faith together.
- A God-Given Dream: Joy prays to become a doctor one day so she can share God’s love by healing the sick and hurting in her community.
Joy’s journey proves that true character and leadership are not defined by wealth or status, but by a heart anchored in perseverance, faith, and unconditional love.
