Like many families, Tong* and Pim* moved from their quiet rural village to the city with big dreams of building a safer, more prosperous future for their children. However, urban life quickly proved overwhelming.
The pressures of adjusting to an unfamiliar city and living in an unsafe neighborhood began to tear at the seams of their home. Tong struggled with severe sleeplessness and turned to alcohol to cope with the stress, spending late nights away from home. Pim carried the heavy emotional burden of trying to raise their young children alone in an environment where she felt constantly unsafe. Weary and disconnected, their home was filled with tension and unspoken fear.
Rebuilding on God’s Word
In July 2024, Tong and Pim took a courageous step and joined the Safe Secure Families Programme (SSFP) a ministry initiative of El-Roi FamilyCARE.
Surrounded by care, prayer, and practical instruction from SSFP mentors, they began opening their hearts to God’s design for marriage and family. Through practical workshops and Christian community, they learned how to heal past wounds, communicate with kindness, and trust the Lord with their burdens.
A Home Renewed by Prayer
The transformation that followed was nothing short of a miracle of God’s grace:
- Freedom from Addiction: Tong stopped relying on alcohol, stepped back from late-night distractions, and returned his focus to his wife and children.
- Family Prayer: Every evening before bedtime, Tong now gathers his family together to pray, leading his home as a spiritual guide.
- Kindness & Active Listening: Both parents learned new ways to speak gently, resolve conflicts peacefully, and build up their children with daily encouragement.
- A Safe Haven: The fear and tension that once filled their apartment have been replaced by the peace and safety of Christ.
Tong and Pim’s story is a living testimony to the power of the Gospel within the home: when parents surrender their weary hearts to Jesus, love is restored, peace reigns, and hope takes root for generations to come.
