The threat of child sexual exploitation and online trafficking is a devastating reality that inflicts deep trauma on young lives. In 2025, The HUG Project joined forces with key government agencies—including the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (TICAC), Immigration Police, the Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security (SDHS), and the local Children and Family Home—to execute a critical rescue operation for two young migrant boys residing in Northern Thailand.

The perpetrators had subjected both boys to severe sexual abuse, recording videos and live-streaming the acts in private online groups for financial gain. Once law enforcement verified the identity of the suspects and located the victims, a joint task force quickly deployed in two specialized units:

  1. Apprehension & Law Enforcement Unit: Executed searches and arrested the perpetrators to bring them to justice.
  2. Social Work & Protection Unit: Immediately provided victim care, shelter, and child protection services.

Comprehensive Care and Holistic Healing

Following the arrest, The HUG Project worked alongside SDHS officers and Children and Family Home personnel to inform the boys’ families of the situation and immediately coordinate urgent medical and psychological evaluations.

Comprehensive forensic, physical, and psychiatric examinations revealed significant health challenges: the first boy had contracted a sexually transmitted infection, while the second boy suffered from developmental and cognitive delays. Both required ongoing specialized medical treatment. However, due to their migrant status, securing legal healthcare coverage presented significant administrative hurdles.

Social workers from The HUG Project stepped in to advocate for the children and walk alongside their families every step of the way:

  • Medical Advocacy: Accompanied the boys to all hospital appointments, coordinating medical documentation and navigating healthcare rights with hospital social workers.
  • Counseling & Follow-Up: Conducted regular in-person counseling sessions to monitor their living conditions, offer emotional support, and foster psychological healing.
  • Legal Rights & Compensation: Assisted the families in applying for crime victim compensation through the Ministry of Justice.

Restoring Dignity and a Future

Through dedicated advocacy and inter-agency collaboration, The HUG Project ensured the boys and their families gained access to essential social welfare and protection:

  • Continuous Healthcare: Both children are receiving ongoing medical treatment and developmental care in a safe environment.
  • Educational Access: Coordinated with local educational institutions to support their schooling and future development.
  • Financial Relief: Secured funding from the Anti-Human Trafficking Fund to assist their families with essential living costs.

What began in deep suffering has been met with Christ-like compassion, justice, and holistic care—restoring dignity, health, and a hopeful future to two precious young lives.
